Road test: Toyota Auris Hybrid
Published: 10/08/2011
“The Prius may be the star of Toyota’s green line-up – but I think the Auris Hybrid is the unsung hero,” says Ken Gibson in a review for the Sun.
“It’s just as green at 89-92g/km CO2 and just as economical at 70-74mpg – but is better to drive. It does 0-60mph in just over 11 seconds and a top speed of 112mph – and it’s quiet and refined.
I like its chunkier style and it is more practical, with 354/761 litres of luggage space compared with just 334 - litres in the Prius. It’s also cheaper at £19,895 to £21,675, compared to the Prius at between £20,845 and £24,045.
“But a new Prius eco-angel awaits – a Plug-in version with 1.8-litre petrol engine, 80bhp electric motor and lithium-ion battery, all delivering 100mpg.As the name suggests, you can plug it into your home electricity supply or a connection at work.
“This Prius can do up to 12.5 miles in electric-only mode, with zero emissions. Best of all, it has a combined range of 108mpg.”
