Toyota Racing continue to take positive steps towards this weekend’s Le Mans 24 hours with its two TS040 Hybrid models posting the fastest lap times during the official testing.
Not only this but after the test both race cars reported a trouble-free and productive result, not bad after 88 laps and a distance of 1,200km.
Having won the earlier races at Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps, Toyota Racing are entering the third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Le Mans with a certain amount of confidence.
The results that Toyota Racing have garnered over the first two races see them with a 48-point advantage over their manufacturer rivals: Audi and Porsche.
This wasn’t just a regular achievement for the Toyota TS040 Hybrid, it was actually the team’s first run at the Le Mans course and gave them the opportunity to evaluate the vehicle’s aerodynamic and mechanical set-ups.
The team also took the chance to test out the TS040 Hybrid on a range of Michelin slick tyre compounds.
It was important for the team to work out the best way to distribute the power of the new TS040 Hybrid system as it has a 986bhp maximum output.
This output is simultaneously greater than the TS030 Hybrid race car from the previous season but it also consumes 25 per cent less fuel, meeting new emissions restrictions
Piloting the No8 Toyota TS040 Hybrid for its test lap was Anthony Davidson, who commented: “The car felt strong all day and had a nice balance. We went through the programme and achieved a lot.
Straight out of the box this morning the car had a good balance and that allowed us to work on the smaller details. Generally it has been a productive day and I am looking forward to coming back here for race week.”
The Toyota TS040 Hybrid race car will be in action for the Le Mans 24 Hours on Saturday, 14 June.
